The Promises of God

Promises From God Concerning The Temporal Things of Life

. . . for He hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee . . . Hebrews 13:5

God is a very gracious and understanding God.  He knew that the sacred sacrifices could become common and that the blessings of daily life can be accepted as the norm.  At times He reminds us of how blessed we are by the temporal blessings we enjoy.  There are thousands of individuals today who waken to a life of degradation due to their caste, thousands who last night did not have a clean and comfortable bed to lie in, nor food in the kitchen. Thousands of others have scarcely a penny to spare, and at times no money at all.  Most of us have physical health and soundness of mind.  We can hear the birds sing, see the beauty of a sunrise or sunset, be held by a loved one, and hear the sound of a loved ones voice.  Yet at times we get down and need to be reminded of the promises of God for the temporal things of life.

a)

"Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever."  (Psa. 23:6)
  b)  "He that followeth after righteousness and mercy findeth life, righteousness, and honour."  (Prov. 21:21)
  c)  “Blessings are upon the head of the just."  (Prov. 10:6)

d)

“The desire of the righteous shall be granted.”  (Prov. 10:24)
  e) “The hope of the righteous shall be gladness."  (Prov. 10:28)
  f) "The LORD God is a sun and shield: the LORD will give grace and glory: no good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly."  (Psa. 84:11)

g)

"Surely I know that it shall be well with them that fear God, which fear before him."  (Eccl. 8:12)
  h)  “The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.  Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over."  (Psa. 23:1, 5)
  i)

“A good man leaveth an inheritance to his children’s children: and the wealth of the sinner is laid up for the just.”  (Prov. 13:22)

j)

“Take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed?  (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things.  But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and His righteousness: and all these things shall be added unto you.”  (Matt. 6:31-33)
  k) “Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom.  For with the same measure that ye meet withal it shall be measured to you again.”  (Lk. 6:38)
  l)  "There is no want to them that fear him.  They that seek the LORD shall not want any good thing."  (Psa.34:9, 10)

m)

"Seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you."  (Matt. 6:33)
n  "My God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus."  (Phil. 4:19)
o  "Godliness with contentment is great gain.  Who giveth us richly all things to enjoy."  (1Tim. 6:6, 17)

p)

“Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them.  Are ye not much better than they?"  (Matt. 6:26)
  q) “I have been young, and now I am old: yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread.”  (Psa. 37:25)
  r) “The young lions do lack, and suffer hunger: but they that seek the Lord shall not want any good thing.”  (Psa. 34:10)

With these in mind, let us never forget to sincerely thank Him for all His bountiful goodness toward us and take His blessings for granted.

May God grant us good understanding as He, by His Holy Spirit, deigns to guide us into all truth.
